ClockSourcetoInternal,oryoucansetthePC3Ktosyncupwiththetempofromanother
device—assumingthedeviceissendingMIDIclockdatatothePC3KviaMIDIorUSB—by

PresstheTEMPOsoftbuttontogototheTEMPOpage(seebelow.)WhentheClockSource
parameterissettoInternal(seeClockSource on page 11‐11,)theTempoparameteronthe
TEMPOpagesetsthePC3K’ssystemtempo.Thesystemtemposetsthetempoforallmodes
exceptSetupMode,
whichhasitsowntemposettings.Also,inSongmode,changingtoanew
songwilloverridethesystemtempo.TheTempoparametervaluesareinunitsofBPM(beats
perminute).
YoucanalsocalluptheTEMPOpagefromanyotherpagebypressingtheleftandrightcursor
buttonssimultaneously.
SettheTempoparameterwiththe‐/+buttons,theAlphaWheel,orthealphanumericpad.You
canalsosetthesystemtempobytappingtheTapsoftbuttonatthedesiredspeed.Youneedto
tapatleasttwiceforatempotobecalculated,thoughtappingseveraltimes
(likeoneachbeatof
oneormoremeasures)worksbest.Thenewlytappedtempoisdisplayedinthetempofield,and
alongthebottomfourProgramselectbuttonsalitLEDmovesfromlefttorightatthistempo.
Alternatively,atemporarycontrollercanbesetforusein
theTemporaryTAPcontrollerfield,
insteadofusingtheTapsoftbutton.TheTemporaryTAPcontrollerfieldlistsgroupsofPC3K
controllersinorderoftheirusefulnessfortapping.Listedfirstarethe footswi tchesand switch
buttons(thoughitwouldbeeasiertousetheTapsoftbuttonthanset
atemporaryswitch
button.)AftertheseisNoteOn,whichletsyoutapthetempowithanykeyboardkey.Lastare
theMIDIcontrollernumbers,whichincludesallofthecontinuouscontrollers,though
continuouscontrollers(suchasaslider)arenoteasyorrecommendedfortappingthetempo.
TheTemporary
TAPcontrollerworksonlywhileontheTEMPOpageandwillremainselected
whenaccessingtheTEMPOpagefromothermodes,buttheselectionwillreturntoOFFthenext
timethePC3Kisturnedon.
Youcanalsoassignacontrollertocontrollerdestination168,TapTempo,tobeused
asatap
tempobuttonwhennotviewingtheTEMPOpage.Forthosewhofrequentlyusetaptempo,this
isatimesavingadditiontoanysetuporcontrolsetup(seeChapter 7 ,SetupModeformoreon
controllersanddestinations.)AnyMIDIvaluesreceivedbydestination168sendatap
signalto
thetaptempofunction.Thiswouldbebestusedwithaprogrammableswitch(orfootswitch.)
ConfiguretheselectedswitchsothatitisToggled,hasit’sOnandOffControlssettodestination
168(TapTempo,)and settheOnandOffValuestoanyvalueotherthanNone.
