Deleting Objects
Withinmosteditors,therearesoftbuttonsfordeletingobjects.Whenyouwanttodeletean
object,presstheDeletesoftbutton,andthePC3Kwillaskyouifyouwanttodeletetheobject.
(Atthispointinthedialog,youcanselectanotherobjectwithanyofthedata
entrymethods.)
PressOKifyouwanttodeleteit,orpressCancelifyoudon’t.ThePC3Kwon’tletyoudelete
ROMobjects(alsoknownas“factory”objects).
Memoryobjects,ontheotherhand,aregonewhenyoudeletethem!Ifyou’ve“replaced”aROM
objectbysavingamemory
objectwiththesameID,theROMobjectisinvisible,butstillthere.
DeletingthememoryobjectstoredatthesameIDwillrestoretheROMobject.
You’lloftendeleteobjectstogainmemoryspace,ortoorganizethememorybanksbeforesaving
objectstostorage.Todeletemultipl eobjects,use
theDeleteObjectsutilityavailableinMaster
mode.It’sdescribedonpage 11‐14.
Dependent Objects
Adependentobjectisanobjectthat’slinkedinmemorywithatleastoneotherobject.For
example,ifyoucreateasetup thatusesaprogramthatyoualsocreated,thatprogramisa
dependentobjectofthesetup.
Whenyoustarttodeleteanobjectthathasdependentobjects,
theDeletedialoggivesyoua
choice:Deletedependentobjects?IfyoupressYes,thePC3Kwilldeletetheobjectand allits
dependentobjectswhenyouexecutetheDeletefunction.Inourexample,ifyouweredeleting
thesetupyoucreated,andyouchosetodeletedependentobjects,the
dependentprogram
wouldgetdeletedaswell.IfyoupressNoattheDeletedependentobjects?prompt,thePC3K
deletesonlytheobject,butkeepsthedependentobjects.Inourexample,thesetupwouldget
deleted,butthedependentprogramwouldremain.
Whendeletingobjectsandtheirdependents,thePC3Kdeletes
onlythosedependentobjectsthat
aren’tdependentonotherobjectsthatyou’ renotdeleting.Forexample,supposeyouhavetwo
setupsthatcontainthesameprogram.Ifyoudeleteoneofthesetups,anddeletedependent
objectswithit,thesetupgetsdeleted,buttheprogramthat’scontainedintheother
setup
remainsinmemory.
Saving and Loading Files—Storage Mode
Savingafilesimplyinvolvesselectingobjectsoracompletebankofobjectstobestoredasa
singlefile.AllobjectswithIDswithinthatrangewillbesavedtothefile.Whenyouloadafile,
thePC3Kasksyouwhichbankwillreceivethefile.Youcanload
afileintoanyofthesixteen
banks,regardlessofthebankitwassavedfrom.ThePC3Kwillautomaticallyreassigntheobject
IDs.
