The Operating Modes
Inthischapterwe’lldiscussthetheorybehindthemodeconcept,andwe’lldescribethebasic
operatingfeaturesofeachmode.
What the Modes Are
ThemodesexisttomakethePC3Klogicaltoworkwith.Withasmanyperformanceand
programmingfeaturesasthePC3Khas,it’shelpfultobreakthemintogroups.Thesegroupsare
calledmodes.Thereareeightprimarymodes;they’redescribedbrieflyinthesectioncalled
UsingtheModes on page 4‐2,
thentherestofthemanualisdedicatedtoexplainingeachprimary
modeinturn.
Eachmodeisnamedforthekindofoperationsyouperform whileinthatmode,andeach
mode’seditor(ifany)containsalloftheparametersrelatedtoeditingthetypeofobjectfoundin
that
mode.InSetupmode,forexample,youselectsetups(andonlysetups)forperformanceor
editing.Allofthesetup‐editingparametersaregroupedtogetherontheSetup‐Editorpage,
whichisaccessiblethroughSetupmode.
Selecting Modes
WhenthePC3Kison,it’salwaysoperatinginoneoftheeightprimarymodesrepresentedby
theLED‐highlightedbuttonstotheleftofthedisplay—orinoneoftheeditorscorrespondingto
thecurrentoperatingmode.Pressingoneofthemodebuttonsselectsthecorrespondingmode.
Thisisthe
mode’sentrylevel.Attheentrylevel,theLEDoftheselectedmodeislit.Onlyone
modecanbeselectedatatime.
Fromanyprimarymode,youcangettoanyotherprimarymodesimplybypressingoneofthe
modebuttons.Ifyou’reinaneditor,however,you
mustpressExittoreturntothemode’sentry
levelbeforeselectinganothermode.
AllofthemodesexceptStoragemodegiveyouaccesstooneormoreeditorsforchangingthe
valuesoftheparameterswithinthatmode.PresstheEditbutton toentertheeditorofthe
currentlyselected
mode.Whenyoudothis,themodeLEDgoesout.
It’spossibletoenteranothermode’seditorwithoutleavingthecurrentlyselectedmode.For
example,ifyoupressEditwhileinSetupmode,you’llentertheSetupEditor.TheSetup‐Editor
pagewillappear,andtheProgramparameterwillbehighlighted
bythecursor.IfyoupressEdit
again,you’llentertheProgramEditor,whereyoucaneditthecurrentlyselectedprogram.
Whileyoucaneditandsaveprogramsasyounormallywould,you’ restillinSetupmode,and
youcan’tselectanothermodeatthispoint.Whenyouexitthe
ProgramEditor,you’llreturnto
theSetupEditorpage.PressExitagain,andyou’llleavetheSetupEditor,returningtotheSetup
modepage.
