Theribboncontrolleritselfshouldrestonaflatsurface;itfitsnicelybetweenthekeysandthe
buttonsandslidersonthefrontpanel.
Theribbonisacontinuouscontroller.Youcanprogramtheribbon
controllertosendMIDI
Controllermessages1–127,aswellasseveralspecializedmessages.Itgeneratesvaluesof0–127
forwhateverMIDIControllersyouassignittosend.Justpressit,andslideyourfingeralongthe
ribbontochangethevalueofthemessageit’ssending.
Youcanconfiguretheribbon
tohaveonecontrolsectionthatrunsitsentireleng th, ortohave
threesectionsofequallength.Itsendsitshighestvalueswhenyoupressitattheendwherethe
cableconnects.Whenyouconfigureittohavethreesections,eachsectionsendsitshighest
valuesatthe end
closesttothecable.
Caution:ThemodularjackisdesignedforconnectiontotheKurzweilRibbonControlleroptiononly.
Don’tpluganyothermodularplugsintotheRibbonjack.
Switching On the Power
ThePC3K’spowerswitchisontherearpanel,adjacenttothepowercableconnection.
Whenyoupowerup,thedisplaybrieflyshowssomestartupinformation.TheProgrammode
displaythenappears.Itlookslikethediagrambelow,thoughyourPC3Kmaybedifferentfrom
theexample.
Thefirsttimeyoupower
up(orafterareset),yourinstrumentwillbesettooperateonMIDI
Channel1(asshownatthefarrightofthetoplineabove).
Setthevolumeatacomfortablelevel.You’llgetthebestsignal‐to‐noiseratioifyoukeepthe
PC3Katfullvolume,and
adjustthelevelfromyourmixingboard.Youmayalsowanttoadjust
thedisplaycontrastandbrightness.TherearetwosmallknobsontherearpanelofthePC3Kfor
thispurpose.
